First step – Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM)
All prospective clients are asked to attend a Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM) to assess the suitability of their case for mediation.
Court applications ask for a MIAM to be completed before an application to Court is made.
A meeting of this type lasts about one hour and our flat rate charge is £125 per person.
Mediation session(s)
After a first assessment we can schedule one or several subsequent mediation meetings, depending on your circumstances. The more complex the discussions, the more sessions will be needed. The aim of this series of meetings is to reach practical conclusions in a cost-effective way.
Mediation session with children
In some cases the children’s voices need to be heard, and we offer the option to facilitate a session which includes your child or children. We take great care to manage these sessions to achieve a calm and rational atmosphere, minimising the stress for the child involved.
Although many people worry about bringing children into a mediation session, we usually find it a very positive experience for the children involved, as it allows them to say how they feel and know that they have been listened to. Children are not asked to participate in decision-making – it is simply a chance for their voices to be heard in a situation in which they are intimately involved.
